Phonics Rules for Long Vowels
1. When a magic e follows ONE consonant it makes the vowel long.  
a_e, i_e, o_e, u_e, e_e
cape, kite, rope, mule, Pete

2. When two vowels go walking the first one does the talking and the second 
is silent. 
ai, ay, ie, oa, oe, ow, ea, ee, ue
