Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Math

ACCELERATED READING

Point, book level, and percent correct goals have been set for this grading period.

How do I know if my child is "on track" for reaching his/her goal? Look at your child's most recent TOPS report. Midpage on this report it says, "marking period results to date". It will also say how much of the grading period has passed. In the same area, you will find your child's average book level, average percent correct, and total points earned. It will tell you what percent of your child's goal has been reached. Simply compare the percent of goal reached to the percent of the grading period that has passed.

 AR   Guidelines

- Read a picture book three times before testing on it

- Test on all your library books before asking to go to the library

- Library books must be AR and on your level

- At least one of your library books must be a chapter book

- Once you have reached your AR goal, you can check out non-AR books and books from other levels

AR TOPS REPORTS   are sent home every time your child takes an AR test.

ACCELERATED MATH

Accelerated math is a computerized software program that allows students to work on our 3rd grade math objectives. It allows the teacher to create practice, exercize, and test assignments tailored to each student's needs. Students are working AM on a daily basis. The program provides review, additional practice when needed, feedback for parents and teachers, and opportunity for students work at their own pace.

AM  TOPS  REPORTS are also sent home as students complete the assignments and tests. Each TOPS  report will be stapled to its matching practice, exercise, or test. TOPS  reports show targetted math objectives, percents correct, and which problems a student answered incorrectly. We aim to go over the incorrect problems in class, but I strongly encourage you to go over them at home also.

Note - AM  practice and test scores do not factor into a student's math grade. Mastery goals will not be set. AM provides diagnostic information, remediation, and acceleration for students. AR reading is not taken as a grade.
