FAQFrequently Asked Questions
What time is lunch? Can I join my child?? Our lunch time is 10:35-11:00 (I also like to refer to it as our "brunch"!!!) You are more than welcome to join your child for lunch too!! There are even a few "special tables" where you, your child, and 2 guests can sit together:) We have specials each day at 12:15-12:55 Monday: Library Tuesday: Second Step Wednesday: Art Thursday: Music Friday: P.E. How do I volunteer in the classroom? At the beginning of the year, usually in mid September, I will send a volunteer interest letter. This letter will explain the needs we have as well as possible time slots. You simply check over the choices and let me know what might work with your schedule! It's that easy:) We love our helping hands!!! First grade has recess at the same time each day from 1:00-1:30. It's a buzz of activity and a well deserved break for our learners!! How can I help my child with reading at home? *Read with your child. You are one of the best models for fluency, expression, etc. Your child can learn a lot from listening to a story. *Encourage your child to use their strategies from the "helping hand" chart. These are great pointers to help when you are stuck on a word. *Talk to your child about the book they've read or listened to. This builds great retelling skills. Ask them about if they made any connections with the story and share. Encourage them to question as they read... things like I wonder why the character did that? or Why did the character think that? etc. Questioning like this helps them to think about the story in a deeper way which benefits them when remembering the story. (comprehension) *I tell my class all of the time...reading is just like anything else you do. The more you practice at it, the better you will be! Just like riding a bike or playing a sport! SO... practice, practice, practice!! |
