Concert Etiquette

Dear Audience Member,

We are pleased you plan to attend you child's arts presentation. The students have dillgently prepared in order to provide a quality performance for you.

As arts educators, we feel that it is our responsibility to teach young people appropriate audience etiquette. To end that, we would ask that you help us educate your children as to appropriate behavior when attending an arts presentation.

Thank you for supporting the students of New Hanover County Schools by your attendance at a future presentation.

Audience Etiquette

  • Talking should cease once the presentation begins.
  • Enter and exit only between pieces of music (not between movements within a larger work) and acts of a play.
  • All food, gum, candy, and drinks should be discarded before entering the performance area.
  • All cellular phones, beepers, pagers, and watches should be turned off.
  • Applause should occur at the end of a piece of music (not between movements of a larger work) or at the end of an act of a play.
  • All restless young children or crying infants should be escorted or carried out of the performance area.
  • While applauding at the appropriate times is welcome, whistling and yelling are never acceptable.
  • Photograph the performers before and after the performance only.
  • Hats and caps should be removed upon entering the auditorium.

Again, please accept our gratitude for your continued support of arts education for all children of New Hanover County Schools.
