Announcements

EOG testing will occur on May 12, 13, and 14. Please make sure you get a
good night's sleep and come to school on time.

This is an exciting time for our fifth graders! Counselors from two middle
schools visited Parsley recently to provide information and answer questions
about the transition to middle school. The orchestra from Roland Grise and
the band from Myrtle Grove also performed for our students. Please carefully
read all information being sent home about middle school and contact me if
you have any questions.

Our classroom guidance lesson in March was about kindness. We experienced how
it feels to be treated kindly and how good it makes us feel when we say or do
something kind to others. In February we focused on good sportsmanship. Our
video clips examined sore losers, honesty, fairness, and having fun. In
January we learned about citizenship. We made Valentines that were delivered
to disabled Veterans in the Veterans Hospital in Fayetteville. In December
our classrooom lesson was on peace. We learned that even though we cannot
always control others we can create peace within ourselves. We learned about
different peace symbols, made "peace doves," and participated in a relaxation
exercise. Our character lesson for November was on honesty. We learned that
in Native American cultures honesty is stressed in daily living and is
believed to create harmony in the tribe. Students made totem poles which
show the classroom community's pride in being honest. In October our
character lesson was about cooperation. Students participated in cooperation
games and made "cooperation quilts" to show how we can work together. In
September I visited each classroom to tell a little about myself and to give
a lesson on "Warm Fuzzies" and "Cold Pricklies". Students heard "A Warm Fuzzy
Tale" and each made their own "Warm Fuzzy".

Congratulations Parsley Patriots! We collected 2,327 pounds of food for the
Friends Feeding Friends Food Drive. Each year our school has collected over
2,000 pounds of food for this drive.
Our Student Council also sponsored a Head to Toe Drive. Kindergarten and
first graders brought hats, second and third graders brought gloves, and
fourth and fifth graders brought socks. These items were distributed to
elementary students in New Hanover County. Thank you for helping with this
drive.

Please remember that the morning drop off area is the circle drive. Our
Safety Patrol is there to assist you each morning. The lot in front of the
school is for busses and teacher parking. Also, the lot on the side of the
school is not for dropping off. Please help us keep morning arrival safe.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
