What if my child has an out of county or out of state IEP? If a student is new to Parsley and has a current IEP, copies of the IEP may be brought to the Parsley office, to the Speech-Language Pathologist, to the Problem Solving Team, or may be obtained from the prior school with parent/guardian permission. A meeting will be sceduled to determine how to best serve the student at Parsley. The student will be served based on the the current IEP until a meeting has been completed. What if my child has an in county IEP from another school? The IEP automatically transfers with the student and he/she will be served according to the current IEP. What are the ages at which various sounds should be devloped? Developmental Norms for Phoneme Aquisition are as follows: Age 3: p,m,h,n,w Age 4: b,k,g,d,f,y Age 6: t,l,ing,r Age 8: s,z,v What is the referral process for speech-language testing/services? School age children must be referred to the speech-language pathologist by the classroom teacher in order to be considered for services. A parent can initiate a referral via the classroom teacher. Once a referral is made, a speech team meeting will be held to develop an intervention plan which may include a speech-language screening. The interventions must be inplace for a least three weeks. The team will review the interventions/screening to determine if a formal evaluation needs to be designed. From the date of the design, there is 90 day time period in which the evaluation can be completed. When the evaluation is completed, the team will meet to review the evaluation and to determine if the student is eligible to receive speech- language services, based on North Carolina state guidelines. The student must also show evidence the the speech-language deficit has a negative impact on academic, social, emotional, and/or vocational functioning within the educational setting. What is the referral process for a preschool student? Preschool children age 3 and up may bt screened/evaluated for speech-language delays if there is a need. To begin this process, you must contact the speech-language pathologist at the district schoool. Preschool referrals follow the same type of process as stated in question #4. |
