Homework

Speech-Language Suggestions:

*Have your child "catch" you saying some sounds incorrectly. For example, if
he/she is working on the /r/ sound, you could say, " Did you see that wed
(red) twuck (truck)?

*When your child reads aloud, keep a list of words he/she has trouble
saying. After the reading session ends, go back and practice the words with
which your child had difficulty.

*As you travel in, out, and around town, make a game of spotting signs,
license tags, environmental print, etc. with sounds your child is practicing.

*Make a collage/booklet of pictures and words containing the sounds your
child is practicing.

*Ask open-ended questions instead of questions that only require short or one-
word responses. For example, "How was your day with Grandma/Grandpa?"
or "Tell me about your field trip."

*Read lots of books and discuss the vocabulary contained within the book.

*Categorize items at home. For example, make a list of fruits, vegetables,
pets, and tools at your house. Talk about how the items in each group are
similar and how they are different.

*Book suggestions:
"Hooway for Wodney Wat"
"My R Sound Box"

Preschool book suggestion:
"First Thousand Words"

Some of these books are available in the Parsley media center. You may also
check with Mrs. VanNote if you would like to borrow any of these titles.

Many other sound box books are available in the media center, such as "My K
Sound Box," and "My G Sound Box."
