Word Masters Competition

Students in my 3rd-5th grade reading classes are working this year on the Word Masters Challenge. The Word Masters Challenge, as described by Word Masters, is an exercise in critical thinking, which first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words (considerably harder than grade level), and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships. Working to solve the Challenge analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically, as they learn new vocabulary.

Results for our first meet which was held on the week of December 8th are as follows:

In fifth grade, our student with the highest score was Tessa J. Way to go Tessa!

In fourth grade, our two students with the highest scores were Abby S. and Hannah M.

In third grade, our four students out of the whole 3rd grade with the highest scores were: Alyssa C., Callie S., Eddie L., and Peyton W. Great job on your very first Word Masters competition, third graders!

Our next meet will be in February during the week of February 16th.
