Continental Math League Competition
Students in my 3rd-5th grade math classes are participating in the
Continental Math League competition throughout the year. Third graders will
compete internationally in three meets, and fourth and fifth graders will
compete internationally in five meets. It is a very challenging competition
in which students must solve very difficult math reasoning problems, using
many different problem-solving strategies.
Results for our first three meets in fourth and fifth grades are as follows:
In fifth grade,we have received our ranking with other participating schools
in the country. With our cumulative scores from meets 1, 2, and 3, we are
higher than 94% of all of the competing schools in the nation and
internationally as a class. That is fantastic!
In fourth grade, on our last meet (meet #3), we were listed as one of
the "leading schools", and with our cumulative scores from meets 1, 2, and 3,
we are ranked above 93% of the schools participating in the nation and
internationally. That is also wonderful!
Third graders had their first meet in January, and they had their second meet
in February. They are working diligently to learn how to problem-solve for
this competition. I really cannot compare their results with other schools
because at this point, we only have three students competing, and we must
have at least six students competing to be able to compare them. I am proud
of their effort and progress so far in the competition.
