Math

There are many math objectives taught throughout first grade. Emphasis on some objectives are in place for each nine weeks, but all of the objectives are practiced throughout the entire first grade year.

New Hanover County assesses particular objectives each nine weeks with a cumulative assessment at the end of the school year.

The following objectives are assessed on the First Nine Weeks New Hanover County Math Assessment.

1.01 (a) Match the model to the numeral and count collections of objects.

1.01 (b) Match coins front and back.

1.01(c)/1.02 Write the number that tells how many.

1.01 (c) Draw circles to match the number.

1.01 (g) Identify sets as equal or not equal.

1.03/1.04 Solve word problems using addition/subtraction

1.01 (f) Estimate to 25

The following objectives are assessed on the Second Nine Weeks New Hanover County Math Assessment.

1.01 (a) Match the model to the numeral and count collections of objects.

1.01 (d) Compare and order sets and numbers

1.01 (g) Identify sets as equal or not equal.

1.02 Use groupings of 2's, 5's, 10's with models and pictures to count collections of objects.

1.03/1.04 Solve addition and subtraction word problems

2.02 (b) Solve problems involving applications of time

3.01 Identify, build, and name parallelagrams, squares, trapezoids, and hexagons.

3.02 Identify, build, and name cylinders, cones, and rectangular prisms.

4.01 Collect, organize, describe, and display data using tallies.

5.03 Translate patterns using letters, numbers, or words.
