Our first grade science is broken down into four main units of study. For each unit of study, New Hanover County provides each class with a science kit. The kits provide hands-on learning experiences.

The four science kits we will have this year are:

Pebbles and Sand-with this kit the students will make observations and build an understanding of solid earth materials.

Balance and Motion-with this kit the students will make observations and conduct investigations to build an understanding of balance, motion, and weighing of objects.

Solids and Liquids-with this kit the students will learn about physical science by making observations and conducting investigations to build an understanding of the properties and relationship of objects.

Living Organisms-with this kit the students will learn life science while conducting investigations and making observations to build an understanding of the needs of living organisms.
