The Salem Middle School PTA welcomes you to a great school year. The PTA will continue to work closely with the staff to provide extra support and assistance throughout the school year.

VOLUNTEERING

Are you looking for a way to get involved at Salem Middle School? There are many volunteer opportunities available. One way is being an Academic Volunteer.

An academic volunteer works with students in grades 6-8, during or after school. Academic volunteers work with students one- on- one or in small groups at the direction of the teacher. A volunteer might help someone who is struggling, reinforce skills, or provide enrichment opportunities. Volunteers can help students who have been absent, who need help preparing for mandated testing, or who just need help with a literature project. Other opportunities might include assisting with an after-school club, helping with working lunch sessions, working with students on special projects, or simply speaking to a class about a profession.

Volunteers are asked to complete an application, including an interest survey. Based on their talents and interests, they are matched with teachers who have requested help. You do not need any advanced training to become an academic volunteer. All you need is the time and desire to help children learn. The Academic Volunteer Program provides training for all interested volunteers based on the needs of Salem Middle School.

Here are some reminders to all our volunteers.

Volunteer Registration:

Don't forget that ALL volunteers must be registered with WCPSS. This must be done from any school computer and must be done each year. Please keep this in mind, especially as field trips approach. Volunteer clearance must be issued before any volunteer goes on a field trip. This process may take up to 2 weeks so please plan accordingly.
