Mrs. Umberger is in her 25th year of teaching at Shady Grove. She is
National Board certified and has her master's with a concentration in
adapted physical education from NC A&T.
Mrs. Smith has been the physical education assistant for 19 years. She has
received her certification for "highly qualified" as a teacher's assistant.
Mrs. Umberger and Mrs. Smith encourage all students to do their best:
class instruction promotes rhythm and dance, fitness, individual and team
sport skills, developmental gymnastics which will enhance life skills that
will keep our children active and healthy throughout their lives. Mrs.
Umberger and Mrs. Smith encourage students to be good citizens and to
develop sportsmanship "on the field as well as off."
