Welcome to my Parlor.....!

Dear Parents,
I trust that you all had a wonderful summer filled with rich family
experiences! It seems that summer just flew by and here we are again back at
school.

I am very excited about the upcoming school year. One reason is the addition
of Mrs. Liz Caldwell, teaching 6th grade science. I am very happy to have her
on board and we look forward to working together to make the science
curriculum at Saint Raphael’s a richer program. We have worked hard to find
and obtain what we believe is an exciting new set of text books and materials
for your child to learn from.

The first thing you will notice about the new materials is that the set of
text books is divided into small unit books. No more lugging around a huge
text book! There are also many internet resources available to enrich each of
the topics taught. Also, there are many small investigations and
“explorations” for the students to do in small groups or at home. In short,
these materials allow the students to take more ownership for their learning
and allows the teacher to give more one-on-one assistance to individual
students. The book is also available online.

Each student will be provided with a unit outline and schedule so that he/she
will know what to expect including any upcoming assignments.
Homework, quizzes, tests and projects will also be on the outline as well as
posted on the teacher website and on the classroom white board. There will be
study hall during the week where students can catch up on work, do homework,
seek help with concepts they might find challenging, or prepare for upcoming
quizzes and tests.

Lastly, students should know that we are here to help them in any way we can.
If they are confused, struggling or miss homework for any reason they should
first come to us to see how we can resolve the situation.

Do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Caldwell if you have any questions,
concerns or input regarding your child’s progress. Our emails are listed on
the back.

We believe that we are in a three way partnership- teacher, parent and
student. Together we can make the upcoming year as successful as possible for
your child, while also developing curious minds, the ability to question, and
a love for learning.

Sincerely,

Dingo Brown, Liz Caldwell.
