Grades 4-6 and the Boys Varsity Basketball Team
WE DID IT!!! We helped to break the WSSA Guinness Book of Records for Sport
Stacking. Go to wssa.com and check it out. Thank you to all who participated.
It was such a fun day and a wonderful opportunity for our students to be part
of a historical global event.
Grades 3-5
The students are learning about the skeletal system in PE class. We have
explored all the major bones of the body. I am amazed at how quickly they
learned and retained all the names of the major bones in the body. We review
them at the start of each class, their enthusiasm for reciting the names to me
is astonishing.
We are nearing the end of our basketball unit. At the 3-5 level, students
engage in learning/ refining fundamental skills. In accordance with balancing
the health triangle,(physical, mental/emotional, and social) our classes have
expanded to incorporate not only the physical aspect of basketball but
mental/emotional and social too. We explore topics such as good sportsmanship.
We identify what that looks like on and off the court. We practice
congratulating others and taking time to tell someone what a good job they are
doing or how we can tell they are trying their very best at an activity. We
have progressed to small-sided games. Offense and defense are discussed and
practiced within the lesson.
Grades 6-8
The middle school students are in Health until the end of the grading period.
The topic is Nutrition. All grades will begin with identifying the six
classes of nutrients. Students will learn how to read a food label and
discuss how the USDA food guidance system list the names of the five food
groups and with both of these sources of information plan a balanced meal
using myplate.gov.
Grade 7 will identify influences on their food choices and using the
decision-making process, determine which foods are nutrient rich and healthy
versus less nutritious food choices.
Grade 8 will explore ways to maintain a healthy weight, identify problem
eating behaviors and discuss sources of help.
