Congratulations!  Job well done

Parents,
We have taken a Scholastic Reading Inventory.  This has given your child a current Lexile Range for their reading goal for the first quarter.  Students' reading goal for this first quarter is 2 fictional chapter books and 1 nonfiction book on their level with an A. R. quiz result of 80% or higher (UNLESS OTHERWISE ASSIGNED). Students are rewarded for this at the end of the quarter if they've met their reading goal.  If your child makes her/his reading goal, they will still be expected to read during reading time and for nightly reading, but they can read from the special materials set aside for them or books of their choice.
Also, third grade through fifth grade takes/has an A+ Event quarterly.  Students who make their reading goal score 5 points toward making their A+ Event. This can make the difference between attending and not attending.  If you need more info, let me know.

Here is a great way for you to be able to keep track of your child's progress
regarding reading
goals w/AR...

Go to :

https://hosted10.renlearn.com/41776/HomeConnect/Login.aspx

Type in your child's name and password used at school (which your child can tell you--
username
is usually first initial and first four letters of last name-together/lowercase;
password is
usually lunch number). It will bring up a progress report card. Then up in the top
right corner
where it says EMAIL SETUP---you can get email notifications when you child takes an AR
test.

You should be able to view percentage, etc.
Also, it shows the whole year and the current marking period. You can click on MY
BOOKSHELF and
see all the books your child has read (it shows actual book covers, not just names of
books).

THIS IS AN AWESOME WAY TO HELP KEEP TRACK.

Hope this is helpful,
Sherry Simmons
