This week we read Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learned about the characters in a story. In phonics we learned about Oscar’s Bothersome Little Brother, Walter Walrus, and Fix-it Max. In math we are learning about shapes, ordinal numbers, attributes of pattern blocks, and writing number sentences. Please practice counting from 1-70 at home. In writing we are working on writing complete sentences that starts with capital letters and ends with periods. We are writing at least 2 sentences when we write in our journals. The students are doing great with learning to spell. Continue working on spelling words at home. On Monday we also had a special lesson using our school robots. Mrs. Marklin came and we taught a math lesson using three lego robots. We talked about shapes and patterns.
The Read-A-Thon for the month of March has started. Your child needs to read 32 books this month and record them on the read-a-thon sheet. We are also asking students to collect donations to go to Heifer International to provide food for needy families around the world. Our class goal is to raise $50. That is $2.50 a student. On Monday we had a special guest, Sara Rhyne, she visited Africa. She came to share about her trip with our school. This goes along with our International read-a-thon. She talked about the school she visited and the things she saw on her trip. We also had a guest speaker that visited Romania, Mrs. Bailey. I went on a mission trip to Romania three years ago and I shared my experience with the school today. I shared pictures and some of the things I brought back from Romania.
Please remember to send a snack for your child everyday. We have snack time at 10:15 everyday. I am sending nap towels home on Fridays. Please wash and return them to school on Mondays. Thanks for your help! Feel free to email baileyb@davie.k12.nc.us or call me with any questions or concerns that you may have.
