This newsflash is to notify you of a change in Title I status for William R. Davie. For many years, William R. Davie has been a Targeted Assisted Title I school. Beginning the 2009-2010 school year, our status changed to schoolwide. For those unfamiliar with the Title I program, here is a brief overview:
Title I provides federal funding for schools to help students who are behind or at risk of falling behind. Services can include: hiring teachers to reduce class size, tutoring, computer labs, parental involvement activities, professional development, purchase of materials and supplies, pre-kindergarten programs, and hiring teacher assistants or others. Approximately half of the schools in North Carolina receive Title I funding. Funding is based on the number of low-income students in a school.
A Targeted Assisted Title I school could only use the services on those students identified as Title I. A Schoolwide Title I school can provide services for all students, regardless of their Title I status.
This is going to be a very positive change for our students at William R. Davie. We already have many resources for identified students thanks to Title I funding over the years. Now all of our students will be able to benefit from those services.
