Miss Hayes' News

In class we are currently taking a tour through the time of the pioneers. Students are learning about what it was like to live during that time period and what they would have needed to survive. We are connecting ourselves with the past. Students are exploring how pioneers worked, built their communites, as well as, how they bartered with Native Americans to survive. This is a learning experience that we will take with us throughout the year.

We have a wagon project that is due October 14th. This is a take home project that will be graded. Students are encouraged to be creative and find ways to construct a wagon of their own. I look forward to seeing their creations!

We are also learning about strategies in math. These strategies will be beneficial for them throughout the year. Most students are very well equipped with their additions facts, but working through those with strategy will build up their abilities to take on much more difficult problems. We are creating these strategies using base ten blocks and mental math. Next we will move on to subtraction fact strategies!
