This week we are going deeper into our nonfiction unit. We will continue to
review and pracice finding the five W's (who, what, when, where, and why) and
how in different types of nonfiction writing. This will require students to
find and use newspaper articles to assist them with their research. If you do
not have any newspapers please e-mail me, and I will make sure that your
child receives a newspaper.(jethridge@wcpss.net).
Some students are not completing their assignments. This includes
assignments they start in class, and they have to complete at home. Please
make sure your child is completing their assignments (home and class).
Please have students continue to study the word of the day vocabulary words.
Each student should have flashcards with the word, the definition,
synonym/antonym of the word, part of speech, and a sentence using the word.
There will be a journal check this week on the following entries:
9/8-9/12
9/15-9/19
9/22-9/26
9/29-10/1
Please make sure your child has each journal entry completed. They should
have at least ten sentences per entry, the journal topic, the date, and they
must be in order. This grade can be an easy 100% if it is done
correctly.
We will continue to practice our DGA's (daily grammar activity) to enhance
our grammar skills. Please make sure your child is practicing DGA's at
home.
Students will be able to attend the Annual Book Fair Thursday, October 16th
to look for items they are interesting in buying. We will attend the Book
Fair again on Friday, October 17th to purchase the items.
Please make sure that the students cover their language arts book. They
will keep this book throughout the year, so a cover is recommended. If they
do not have a cover, they can cover it with newspaper or a brown paper bag.
Here are some language arts websites:
