Spanish - Grade K-1

 

Kindergarten - Goal 1: Communication - Progress Indicator 1.1A:  Express
basic needs.  The students are learning greetings and farewells - "Buenos
días"(Good morning); "Buenas tardes"(Good afternoon) and "Adiós"(Good-
bye); "Hasta luego"(See you later).
The students will also learn four basic needs phrases: "Tengo hambre"(I'm
hungry.); "Tengo sed." (I'm thirsty.); "El baño, por favor." (Bathroom,
please.); and "Maestra"(Teacher).  The students are working on the
numbers from 1 to 10,the basic colors, and classroom commands.  The students
will also be learning several songs and games as well as a few sign language
actions. Classroom teacher, Mrs. Iden ,shows the Salsa video twice a week and uses 
Spanish in her classroom to give instructions, practice the calendar, and reinforce the numbers,
colors, greetings, and manners. 

The kindergarten class has been assessed on the basic needs phrases and numbers from 1-10.

During the second quarter, the students will be working on expressing basic
courtesies such as "Por favor." (Please.), "Gracias."(Thank you.), "De
nada."(You're welcome.)  They will also learn to express likes and dislikes
with a few foods ("el pastel"-cake; "el helado"-ice cream; "el chicle"-
gum; "el pudín"-pudding; and "el pay"-pie)and how to say they are fine, so-so
and not well.

Grade 1 - At this level, students are learning to express phrases using “I want” with classroom items (pencil, paper, book, scissors, crayon, ticket).   Classroom teacher, Mrs. Kindschuh, has taught them to say the "Sign of the Cross" in Spanish. First graders also watch the Spanish video "Español para ti" and do the calendar (days, days of the week, month, year, and weather) every day in Spanish.

The first grade have been assessed on basic needs phrases and the numbers from 1-20.
