DISCIPLINE POLICY
I use the pull card system in my classroom. Please take some time to read the
process and discuss the importance of following the rules with your child.

Each student has a personalized card. I have a large pocket chart arranged
like a traffic light (red on top, yellow in the middle, green on the bottom)
in the classroom. Each morning, all cards are placed in the green section.
If a student chooses to break a rule, they will move their card from the green
section to the yellow section, which will result in an immediate 3-5 minute
timeout in the classroom timeout chair. If a student chooses to break a rule
again, they will move their card to the red section of the pocket chart, which
will result in an immediate timeout again and a 5-10 minute timeout during
recess or classroom center time. Students that miss recess will stand against
the wall outside on the playground. If a student chooses to break a rule
again, they will be referred to the principal’s office. Severe breaking of
the rules, such as fighting, biting, swearing, etc. will result in an
immediate referral to the principal. I emphasize to the students that they
are responsible or in charge for their actions and it is their choice to break
a rule.

If a student consistently chooses to break the rules, I will call and set up a
time to meet with the parents. At this meeting we will discuss a discipline
plan specifically for the child involved.

If this still does not work, then a meeting with the parents, principal,
behavior specialist, other teachers involved with the child during the day,
and myself will be set to discuss further action.
