Liam's Environmental Blog

                              April 12, 2010
Hi my name is Liam W. and I’m your informant on the growth of the tomatoes we
planted. This is the first entry so let’s get to it. About two weeks ago Mr.
Porter and Mr. Richard did a presentation about composting with a parent
named Ms. Weirsma. They told us how important it is to compost and use the
compost in our gardens. They showed us how to mix compost with dirt to grow
plants. Then they gave us two packets of tomato plants that where labeled B &
T. One of them went to space on a space Shuttle and one of them is regular
tomatoes. We are part of a big experiment taking place across Canada to see
how tomatoes grow after they have been in outer space. Now they have
sprouted. Two grade 4 students are the ones who water them. They all look
healthy. Most all of the seeds are sprouted but a few have not yet. I'll
inform you every week on how they are growing. This is Liam logging out.

                              April 20th
Hello again this is Liam and this is the weekly blog on the Tomatoes. First
off the Tomato plants are around 10 to 15 cm. I know this because I measured
them with a ruler. The tallest plants are from Mme. Fisher’s class.
The plants are really healthy right now because two Gr.4 students are
watering them and checking on them. Their names are Jason and Drake. Mr.
Richard has a timer for controlling the lights so the Tomatoes will think
it’s day and night. Mr. Porter and Mr. Richard gave the Gr. 1’s extra seeds
so they can bring home their own Tomato plants at the end of the school year.
I think the plants are doing well. I will give you another weekly update next
week.

P.S. DON’T TOUCH THE STEMS THEY MAKE YOUR FINGERS SMELL!!!!!!!!

April 28, 2010

Hi and this is your weekly blog. It’s me Liam so let’s get to it. First of
all I’m happy to report that the plants are doing great. They are growing.
Mme. Fisher’s are taller now, the average height is 15-19cm. Mme. Fisher and
all of the other Elementary classes are in the tomato sphere project. It’s
still too cold outside for the Tomatoes. I think we will plant them in June
when the weather is better. Soon we will be transplanting the tomatoes to
separate pots because they are getting too big. I like doing these blogs so
if you have any information or something important, please tell or contact
Mr. Richard. This is Liam signing off see you next week.

May 4, 2010

Hi again its Liam here bringing the low down on the tomatoes. So let’s get to
it. First off the weather. Did you hear the thunder! It was like Thor was mad
with Newfoundland. I did my weekly measured and the average height is 21-25
cm. you know what this week is? It’s International Compost Week. The name
says it all, every one should compost. Last week I said that we will be
transplanting. Well Mr. Richard and Joseph Transplanted all of the Elementary
plants now. Well that’s all of the information I know. This is Liam logging
off see you next week.

May 11, 2010

Hi this is Liam here again bringing you the weekly update of the tomatoes. So
let’s get to it. First off, the average height of the tomatoes is 24-27cm.
That makes them 2-3 cm taller than they were last week. Last week I said we
transplanted the Elementary. Well this week we got some of the primary plants
transplanted. You know why we transplanted the tomatoes? Because they need
room to grow and flower. Finally I think the weather is still a bit too cold
to plant them out side. Well then this has been this week’s entry. This is
Liam logging off. See you next week.

May 18, 2010

Hello blog readers, Liam giving you the weekly update to the blog again. So
let’s get to it. First off the average size of the tomatoes is a whopping 29-
30 cm! The grades 1’s are studying plants in science. They come up every week
to check up on the plants. They seem quite interested.
We still can’t plant them outside yet but we will be hardening them off. This
means you take the plants and bring them outside for a few hours a day until
they get used to the outdoors.
Mr. Richard took pictures of the plants and we hope to upload them soon. The
pictures show the plants from seeds to juvenile plants. I saw the pictures
and they look good.
In a couple of days it will be Victoria Day or the May 24 weekend. Have a
good weekend and I’ll see you next week. This is Liam signing off

May 25, 2010

Hello bloggers, Liam here again, bringing you the weekly blog. So let’s get
to it. First off the tomatoes are big! The average height is roughly 34 cm. I
had to use a 30 cm ruler and then estimate the rest. Every week I said that
we still can’t plant them outside. Well it’s the same this week. The
gardeners are planning to plant an outdoor garden, but first the parent
volunteers have to prepare a garden. Their planning that right now. I think
the garden should be in a sunny place but a place that not a lot of people
play around. The garden will take a lot of work but I know we can do it. I’ll
report on the project in next week’s entry. This is Liam signing off. See
you next week.

Hello bloggers Liam again bringing you the weekly update, so let’s get to it.
First off, I couldn’t measure them because they were in shock outside. They
are outside because they are being hardened off. Every day the tomatoes are
brought out side in the morning and then Mr. Richard brings them inside at
the end of the day.

P.S. Tomorrow the world cup starts! I am a fan.

September 29, 2010

Hello again I’m back with my new partner in blogging, Joseph D. First off it
was a long summer and boy how the plants grew. They had a good summer because
they grew so tall! We were shocked when we saw them. Mr. Richard took
pictures of the tomato plants and Joseph watered them all summer. They
started off really small but then when we came back from summer vacations
they were big and had tomatoes on them. Some of the tomatoes were turning
red!
The plants even survived hurricane Igor. The plants were bent over
but no tomatoes fell off the stem, there was even a cracked off tree by the
garden. Thank the lord the tree did not crush the plants. We have more to
say, so we’ll update you tomorrow. Stay tuned bloggers.

October 13, 2010

Hello bloggers, it’s us the Tomato Bros. and we have news for you! First off
a happy late thanksgiving to all of you readers hope you had a good long
weekend. But we are sad because the tomato project is done and Mr. Richard
has broke has wrist in 4 different places. We hope you get better soon Mr.
Richard.
In the mean time we had lots of fun with the tomatoes. After we grew them, we
picked them and ripen them. A few in the dark and a few in the light. Then
when all of them ripen we gave the tomatoes away, one to each grade. We had
so much fun with the tomatoes and we can’t wait till the next time we grow
something. We’ll see you next week.
