Read,  READ, Read ,Read , Read !!!!!!!!

Why Read Aloud to Your Child ?

* To enhance listening skills
* To learn how stories work
* To build background knowledge
* To build comprehension strategies (predicting, confirming, questioning)
* To learn that print is made up of words and letters
* TO build positive attitudes about learning


When reading to your child:

* Read aloud each day.
* Be cheerful

* Find a comfortable place

* Avoid distractions

* Let your child choose the book sometimes

* Let your child hold the book and turn the pages

* Point to the words as you read

* Link pictures with words

* Talk about the pictures and use them to help guess what might happen next

* Talk about the guesses that were made as you read

* Ask if this book is like other books previously read
