Well, it's certainly been a funny week at Rennies River Elementary! Between PD days and snow days, it feels like the week hardly happened! Hopefully, this week things will be a little more normal and we can get back on track
This week our school is head first into our annual read-a-thon fundraiser. As of Friday afternoon, our class had read 755 minutes! Way to go grade ones! Believe it or not, there are some classes that have read even more than we have, so we have to work very hard if we want to win the prize for the most minutes read. To date, only 3 students have returned their pink sheets with their nightly reading on it. Please remember to return these every day so that we can add your child's minutes to our class total. As well, be sure to record any reading that takes place on your sheet. This can be reading a baggie book, reading a nighttime story to your child, reading on the internet, practicing letters and sounds, or even reading instructions to a game!
Because we are encouraging as much reading as possible this week, we will not be studying a word family this week. Continue to practice your sight words, as this will count towards your reading minutes! As well, feel free to take a break from writing sentences in your agendas this week.
We have noticed that there are still some children who are coming to school without hats, mitts, snowpants, and boots. Although it is cold and snowy outside, we do attempt to have the children go outside if there is not too much of a wind chill, therefore they need to be dressed appropriately.
This week in Math we will really get into our unit on Numbers to 100. This is a fun unit for students as it involves our hundredth day celebrations and most students have a fairly good grasp on many of the outcomes already. We will be sending home some fun activities to do with the number 100 this week so keep an eye on your child's baggie.
One other important note, our class calendar sent home this week, contained an error. The upcoming professional development day for teachers will be on February 13th, not 16th as indicated on the calendar. Please keep this in mind in case you need to make alternate childcare arrangements.
That's all our classroom news for this week! As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
