| Weekly class meetings have not yet begun in 4th grade. Hopefully they will begin shortly.
Initially we will focused on topics that correlate with Red Ribbon week activities. Lots of good
conversation regarding the use of medication and the misuse of drugs was happening! Check out the
website: www.abovetheinfluence.com. There is some good information you can review with your kids.
Discussions often also focused on anger management. We refer to it as "going
up the escalator" - things that make problems and arguments worse and "going down the escalator" - a
particular phrase that helps solve disagreements. Once your kids learn about it, ask them to teach you
the phrase!
We also tend to discussing gossip and will tie that into bullying, and that their actions can a
significant impact on others (good or bad) and sometimes they have no idea of that impact.
Some of the kids watch the news and I tie in some news items that I feel are appropriate for their
age. I like to see the kids become passionate about morals and values and encourage them to bring
conversations to class meeting that may demonstrate good morals and values as well as really poor
choices that people make.
If any parent wishes to attend a class meeting, please call me to discuss
the scheduling of the classes.
