Class Membership
- You are expected to own your own learning. This means do your best
in this class and will work with the teacher to achieve success.
- Students must understand that the grade they earn in this class is the
grade they have earned, not the grade that the teacher gives you.
- You must come prepared for class each day with your book, pencil,
pens, and completed homework. A binder is recommended for each subject.
- Head coverings are not allowed in class. Walk-mans are not allowed,
except under special circumstances. Food and beverages are allowed in class,
as long as they do not interfere with learning.
- Students must not leave any papers or trash at their work stations.
- You are expected to be an active participant in class, work
cooperatively and show respect for the teacher and your classmates.
- Students must be willing to communicate with the teacher about any problems
in class or with the instruction. The student must let the teacher know if
they expect accommodations to be made.
Classroom Behavior Policies
- The following behaviors interfere with the learning process and will not be
tolerated in class:
- Leaving your work areas without permission and/or abusing bathroom
privileges.
- Reading or doing unrelated work during class time.
- Tardiness to class.
- Talking excessively during instruction or cooperative work.
- Use of inappropriate language.
- Refusal to cooperate with the teacher's requests.
- The following consequences will follow infractions of these rules:
- 1st offense: Reminder of rules.
- 2nd offense: Verbal warning.
- 3rd offense: Detention.
- 4th offense: Removal from room to main office + meeting with
administration or guidance.
- Multiple 4th offenses: Conference with administration and guidance
and parents or guardians.
- More serious infractions will result in an immediate detention and
removal to the main office. Those infractions include (but are not
limited to): Physical violence towards another student (even in a
playful manner).
- Harassment or threats to another student.
- Intentional vandalism of school property.
- Severe use of profane and/or inappropriate language in class.
- Inappropriate language directed towards the teacher.
Classroom Academic Policies
- You must write your name on top of all work to be passed in to receive
credit.
- Homework must be turned in on the day that it is due. Late work is accepted
throughout the quarter on most assignments, but points will be proportionately
deducted.
- Homework assignments are written on the board and posted on the web site.
If you are absent for any reason (including field trips and excused absences)
it is your responsibility to get your assignments.
- This also applies to any missed class notes, announcements,
information and/or handouts.
- The content of all work and projects must be appropriate (no profanity or
inappropriate subjects).
- Plagiarism and cheating are strictly prohibited and will be dealt with in
accordance to school policy.
- All assignments must be done in a neat, professional and legible manner.
Classroom Assessment Policies
- A variety of assessments will be used to check student progress
throughout this course. The student will clearly understand how they are
being graded.
- Quizzes may be given without advance notice, but tests must be announced at
least two classes prior to the exam. A review sheet will be presented to each
student.
- The lowest test grade of each quarter may be retaken. This does not apply
to quizzes or advanced classes.
- Tests may be corrected for extra credit assignment points. This does not
apply to quizzes.
- You have one week to make-up or complete any tests or quizzes from
absences or from running out of time during class. After one week, the test
or quiz is graded as is. No exceptions.
- Students will receive grade printouts of their academic standing at
least twice each quarter.
Classroom Attendance/Bathroom Policies
- You must be on time for class. Students must arrive either at the
bell or within a reasonable period of time after the bell if there are
extenuating circumstances.
- Tardiness is only excused with a pass from a staff member for a
legitimate reason. Passes from the main office with no reason attached are
not considered legitimate.
- Only one student is allowed out of the class at a time to use the
bathroom. Students are not allowed to leave the room to purchase food or
beverages unless under extenuating circumstances.
- Students will not be allowed to leave the room to go to guidance or
to go another teacher during class,except under extreme extenuating
circumstances.
- Students are expected to return from bathroom breaks within a
reasonable period of time. Students must have the classroom bathroom pass at
all times in the hallway.
Extra Help/Miscellaneous
- I am available for extra help after school every day until at least 2:45
and before school every day at 6:45 in Room 206. Please speak with me to set
up any appointments or special accommodations as needed.
- Textbooks are issued in every class and must be returned in an
acceptable condition to receive a grade in this class. It is the
responsibility of the student to make financial restitution to HDHS is a
textbook or class materials are damaged or lost.
