I was born and grew up in Framingham, MA. I graduated from Anna Maria
College in Paxton, MA with a BA in Art Education and from Plymouth State
with a M.Ed. in Integrated Arts. I taught art in Laramie, WY, Alameda, CA,
and Dunbarton, NH. I worked for many years as an artist in the merchandise
presentation department of a retail chain. I have studied art here and
abroad and I continue to take and offer classes and workshops exploring new
art forms and ideas. This is my 22nd year teaching art at New Boston Central
School.
I currently live in Dunbarton with my husband Rick and our two Newfoundlands,
Reggie and Ben.
I am a People to People Leader, traveling summers with 5th and 6th grade
students. I have traveled to Japan, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, England,
Italy, France, Belguim, the Netherlands, Wales, and Ireland.

The Mission of the Art Classes

The mission and focus of the art lessons this year will embody the Five
Fundamental Learning Skills:

*LISTEN – perceive, pay attention, observe, discriminate, decipher…

*QUESTION – inquire, investigate, hypothesize, test, discover...

*CREATE – invent, improvise, produce, compose, transform…

*PERFORM – demonstrate, recite, practice, memorize, interpret, master skills…

*REFLECT – make connections, self assess, set goals, plan, reconsider…

The six plus one traits of writing are also woven into the art curriculum.
New Boston Central School has made a discovery through its teaching of
writing and its philosophy of offering an arts infused curriculum that the
traits of writing are also the traits of all artistic process. The students
at New Boston Central School know that quality writing and quality process
contain seven essential traits: ideas, organization, choice, voice,
fluency, conventions and presentation. It is common practice to see students
discussing the traits in relation to a piece of artwork, a music lesson, a
creative dance, a math journal entry, a reflection log, or through a
Community Meeting presentation. Through the use of the seven essential
traits, students learn that all process, whether it is writing, reading,
dancing, art or music must contain ideas, organization, choice, voice,
fluency, conventions and presentation. At New Boston Central School these
traits are a common language that transcend all content areas.
