PTA NEWS:

It is hard to believe that yet another school year is coming to a close! This school year the NBCS PTA met and exceeded many of its 2011-2012 fundraising goals thanks to its dedicated volunteers and supporters.  In early May we celebrated staff appreciation week with a delicious luncheon for the NBCS staff.  Community members provided the NBCS staff with an amazing menu with old favorites like the, "I dream of you all year long" key lime pie and new favorites such as the, "May I have another bowl please?" butternut squash soup.  Many thanks are extended to NBCS Kindergarten teacher, Nancy Biederman, for the use of her room for the luncheon.  A BIG thank you to all who provided the delicious food and necessary supplies.  And a special thank you to Lynn O'Brien, Leslie Delisle, Laurin Comeau, and Kerri Kelley for their help with luncheon set up, service, and clean up.

The NBCS PTA is already busy preparing and revising events and activities for the 2012-2013 school year.   Our election of officers was held during our May meeting.  We are pleased to announce the following NBCS PTA officers:

Melissa Buckley, President

Debbie DeGroot, Vice President

Jill Clinton, Treasurer

Kary Jencks, Secretary

We are still seeking fabulous folks to volunteer to coordinate the following:

* NBC Picture Day - requires approximately two full days of volunteer time

* Curriculum Enrichment - this program can be shared between two or more volunteers.  Most of the volunteer time is spent confirming outside speakers as well as hosting them during the school day for which they are scheduled to speak.

* Magazine Drive - it starts right at the beginning of the school year and thanks to previous coordination from Kristen Freeman, it is our most successful fundraiser. This program can be shared between two or more volunteers.

Do not miss this opportunity to be part of a great organization in town!

The NBCS PTA meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  We encourage you to join us at our next meeting in September at 7:00 pm in the school library.

Kickoff to Summer 5K:

Kickoff To Summer 5k, In Memory of Dave Cramb, will be held on June 16th.   We have something for everyone!  Run, walk, 1 mile run (kids 12 and under) and the kids mad dash (kids 8 and under). You can register online at www.running4free.com or look at our website for more information, www.kickofftosummer5k.com.  As a way to bring attention to the 5K Kick-off to Summer event and to encourage student participation in the mad dash, the mile run, or the 5K run, NBCS students are doing an event called "Walk/Run Your Way To The 5K".  Students will be running and walking a 1/5 mile course during recesses for 4 weeks leading up to the race.  At the end of each day, teachers tally student's laps and report the total mileage for the week to Mrs. Moulton on Fridays.  During the first week, students from grades Readiness through 5th logged an impressive 1,235 miles.  We can't wait to see what the total will be this week with 6th graders back from camp.  We are in need of volunteers--any amount of time is appreciated!
