Does my child have kindergarten homework?

We keep in mind that your child is still a young child. We do
send home our "popcorn" words on a biweekly basis which we ask
you to practice with your child. In addition, we can not stress
enough how important reading to your child is. YOUR homework is
to read each and every day to your child. As math games are
introduced, we may send home games for families to play/learn
about together.

Is it possible for me to volunteer time in/out of the classroom?

Yes! By our Open House evening, we will have a schedule for
various times that we may seek volunteers in the classroom. We
look forward to having you join us.
We also know that some parents would love to help, but are
unable to physically come into the room. If you are interested
in helping with a variety of projects at home (such as typing,
making simple games etc.) we invite you to volunteer as well!
**Please note...all volunteers in PES are required to sign
paperwork prior to entering the classroom. You will receive this
in your "packet" at the beginning of the year.

How will I know how my child is doing in kindergarten?

Our primary time to discuss your child's progress will be at
Parent Conference time in November. Prior to this, we are happy
to have you send in a note and we will respond. You are always
welcome to call us, but please remember that we can not leave the
room during class time to speak...we will get back to you as soon
as we can. Please watch for weekly "bulletins" that will give
you some input into what we are working on (these are great ways
to initiate conversation with your child),as well as
occassional "notes" asking you to ask your child about something
specific that we did during kindergarten.

Do I pack a snack?

Yes, we will provide a snack time daily. Please provide a small,
nutritious snack, juice/water and a napkin. We do not allow
sharing of snacks due to various health concerns. You will be
notified if your child is in a nut free classroom.

Should I send in a change of clothes?

While we do have smocks for art activities, kindergarten children
sometimes require a change of clothing due to accidents. We have
limited storage space and limited clothing at the nurses
office...you may wish to seal an outfit in a zip lock bag and
leave in your child's backpack...just in case!

How do I inform you of changes in routine/etc?

Please send in a note each time there is ANY change we should be
aware of. Please refer to your student handbook for details.
Please do not attempt to email a change...we can not assure you
we will be able to look at it. Always call if you forget to send
a note!

May I walk my child into the building rather than dropping off to a staff member?

Although we realize that you want to know your child is content
within the classroom, it is important that we help your child
establish safe/efficient routines from day one. Students will be
dropped off each morning/afternoon to a staff member who will be
eagerly awaiting their arrival. While this transition may be
difficult for some children, your confidence in the routine and
the safety of the environment will help your child learn it
is "ok."
With your help, drop off/pick up will be a safe/efficient routine!

How is the drop off/pick up routine handled?

Please refer to our "Drop off/Pick up" Procedures form that will
be handed out at our "Meet and Greet."

visitors will report directly to the office for a visitors
badge/sign in.
