The students will begin dictation sentences as part of their
spelling grade to assess spelling application. Each week, I will choose three
random spelling sentences they must write correctly. Spelling, capitals and
punctuation counts! A great way to practice at home: have your child write
simple sentences with spelling words in them!
Spelling tip: practice the spelling words out of order. Mix up the order of
the words- I will frequently mix up the order on a spelling test.

Some helpful ideas to practice weekly spelling words:
1. Make spelling word cards
2. Put the words in ABC order
3. Group the words by phonics skill (ex. vowel teams, magic e, short vowel,
long vowel words.)
4. Have a family spelling bee
5. scramble letters or word tiles to make a spelling word.
6. Write the spelling word in shaving cream or sand.
7. Write sentences with your spelling words.
