Each night your child needs to read at least 20 minutes and log that on their reading logs. New logs
are handed out each Monday and are due back the next Monday. Keep in mind that each student needs
to read one Accelerated Reader book per week. They also need to take a test on this book.
On Mondays the students will be bringing home their spelling journals and a lined spelling practice
sheet. The boys and girls should put their words into the left hand column on this page. They should
also compose a sentence for each of their spelling words in their journal. This journal should be
brought back to school on Tuesday.
Tuesday night the students should use the lined paper to practice writing their spelling words.
They should fold this paper into vertical thirds, look at one of the words, fold the paper back so they
can't see the word and write the word in the second column. If the word is spelled incorrectly they
should try it a second time in the third column.
On Wednesday the students will have an additional spelling homework assignment. This will vary
between fitting words into shapes, unjumbling the spelling words, completing a word search, or filling
in the blanks of a partially spelled word.
There will be a practice spelling test each Thursday and a final test on Friday. There are challenge
words on most weeks but points will only be awarded for these words if a score of 100 is achieved on
the first ten words.
