As of today, more than half of the class has mastered their times tables in 2 seconds or less. These
people are our Math Wizards: Alexandra, Spencer, Hannah, Bowen, Patricia, Timothy, Garrett, Phillip,
Jacob, Ben, Nicole, and Madeline. Really great job!

The second Breakfast Club meeting of the year will be held tomorrow morning at 8 AM. Members

Congratulations to Garrett, our October Student of the Month. Garrett was recognized for his ability
to work hard, stay on task, and yet enjoy the funny things that happen around here each day.

Our first class spelling bee was held today. The winner was Alexandra, second place was Madeline,
and third place was Hannah. Congratulations to these students. We have a lot of great spellers this
year, and it was a long match.

Rock Across America was celebrated today with finished reports coming in, and a concert from our
favorite rock groups:
Fire in the Hole, starring Spencer, Phillip, and Sheldon,
Shooting Stars, starring Nicole, Alexandra, Madeline, Hannah, and Melissa,
Crossfire, starring Cam N., Quinton, Vincent, and Anthony,
Lords of Rock, starring Ben, Garrett, Bowen, Devvin, and Jacob, and
Fire Crackers, starringPatricia, Peyton, Noelle, and Cameron
Our second grade book buddies from Mrs. Martell's class made up most of our audience, along with
a few teachers.
From the applause, it appears that all groups were a hit.

Our Parting Ceremony was held today, and the fifth graders did a tremendous
job. Congratulations to all of you.
In the afternoon, the fifth grade parents group put on a picnic, and it was
fantastic in spite of the rain. Imagine an inflatable slide, a bouncy house,
bead stringing, a photo booth, and all the food you could eat, all in the
Smyth Road Gym! Thank you for all your hard work. It was a great day.

Congratulations never seem to end for Liam Colby and his fantastic DAR essay.
He received word that his essay was chosen as the regional winner(that is all
of New England and part of New York state). We couldn't be prouder!

Mrs. Nancy-Ann Feren visited our class this afternoon to tell us about her
trip to Antarctica, and
share slides, clothing she brought, and mementos with us. We learned a lot
about this part of the
world.
In addition, she told us about the early days of Smyth Road School, as she was
in the first fourth
grade class. Some things have changed a lot!

to name them from Washington to Obama. Congratulations to our first two

Winner for the D.A.R. Very, very impressive!

Congratulations to the Smyth Road Girls' Basketball team for winning the City
Championship for the second year in a row. There was a lot of excitement at

Liam's outstanding essay on the Gettysburg Address was selected as the winner
by the Molly Stark Chapter of the D.A.R. This afternoon he was honored and
read his paper at a meeting at the John Stark House. See photos of this event

Today was Ellis Island Day!!! Despite the delay in school opening, and
thanks to the wonderful volunteers, it was a big success, everyone had a good
time, and everyone made it into America. Look at the pictures in our photo

Students may qualify as Math Masters by correctly giving the answers to
multiplication problems in
two seconds or less using all of the flash cards with tables 1 through 12.

Sophia B. and Adriana were named as the essay winners for Red Ribbon Week
from our class. They
have been invited to read their essays at the assembly next week.
Sean, Virginia, and Liam have been elected as our class representatives to
the school student
government group.

they have passed in all of their work since school began, and have made the

Music was our theme today as we began the day entertaining the school with
our states and capitals song over the school intercom.
The Rock Across America fianl concert was held in our class this afternoon
with honored guests, Principal Miss Briggs, and Mrs. Martell and her second
grade class.

Open House was held tonight, and it was a pleasure meeting so many new and
experienced parents.
Groups spent time together to prepare for Rock Across America to be completed
on October 3.

How are you doing on your List of Life Goals? At the end of July, Mr. Paige
and I went to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, a goal on my list for a long
time. To make it even better, Ryan Shaughnessy, one of my former students

Former student, Trisha Hewitt, was married in Sunapee this evening to Mike
