What do we do with the vocabulary books?

Have the children read them aloud to you every night.  The little monkeys
memorize them so be sure to shuffle them up.  Making flash cards is a great
idea.  You can add new words as they come home.

Do the children have to be able to spell the vocabulary words?

Not at this time.  If they can, that's wonderful but it's not expected.  Our
Spelling lists are quite different and will be sent home once we finish the
handwriting homework.  
Recognizing the words in text and in isolation is key.
