Does Kindergarten have rest time?
Yes, we do. After lunch, we have the children put their heads
down at their seats. They are welcome to bring a SMALL stuffed
animal to cuddle with each day. Their friend should be able to
fit in their backpack and will go home with them in the afternoon.
What are the hours of the school day?
The playground bell is rung at 7:35 and the students leave the
building at 1:50 from the back lot. If it is too cold to be
outside or the weather is bad in the morning, parents are asked
to drop off their children at the frontdoor.
Where do we drop off and pick up our children?
Around the back of the building you will find the Pre-K and
Kindergarten playground. It is there that we have our before
school recess and dismissal. If you arrive after the morning
bell or are picking your child up early, we ask that you enter
through the front door and check in with the office.
Should I send my child in with extra clothes or snack?
This isn't a bad idea. Extra clothes can be left at the bottom
of their backpack or we can find a spot in the closet. As for a
snack...extra choices are important. We have found it is better
to send them with more, instead of them feeling hungry.
What type of behavior plan is used?
Everyday your child will start with their car at the green
light. When there is excessive talking, disruptive behavior, and
physical contact, their car is moved to yellow. (Keep in mind,
students are verbally guided before cars are moved). This color
reminds them to "slow down" and think about how they are acting.
Then, if they are just having a bad day, then their car is placed
on red. It is now time to physically take a break and try to do
better the rest of the day, This is a quiet approach and allows
for POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT along the way. We have found that it
promotes SELF-CONFIDENCE and allows students to feel incontrol of
their behavior. Every night they will take home a calendar in
their folder that will show what color they arrived at by the end
of the day. If they get a red, the teacher will write a quick
note explaining how they got there. We ask that parents talk
about the calendar daily and discuss the behavior that occured
when they are at yellow and red. Reinforcement at home is KEY to
a SUCCESSFUL school year.
When will they be assigned homework?
The month inwhich we start homework varies from year to year and
depends upon the dynamics of the class. (We will keep you posted)
Please look to "Things To Do At Home" for suggestions on ways to
help your child be prepared for the " up and coming" school year.
Can I volunteer in the classroom?
Parents that wish to volunteer in any way are asked to take a
class called, "Protecting God's Children." (dates and times that
it is offered in our area can be found on The Diocese of
Manchester website). Parents can be involoved by joining us on
field trips; reading in the classroom; doing prep work at home;
sending in needed items; working with the parent group or
volunteering in the kitchen.
What is the best way to get intouch with you?
The best way to get intouch with me is either by sending a note
in with your child's folder or by phone.
