Social Studies Info

With each chapter we will have vocabulary words that the children will need
to study and learn for the test. They will make these vacabulary cards in
school and keep them in their K.I.T. binder to study. Please DO NOT remove
these from the binder and keep at home. We will be using them in preparation
for the test.

SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT : NEIGHBORHOOD MAP (COMMUNITY)

Social Studies Project

Assigned : Tuesday, September 20, 2011
Due : Friday, September 30, 2011

Project : Draw a map of your neighborhood
             * Center of the map is your home
             * Include streets and their names
             * Include whatever is to the right, left,
front, and back of your house

Things to include (if they are within 1 or 2 streets)
                number on your house
                streets around your house
                other homes
                stores
                gas stations
                schools
                businesses
                playgrounds
                fire/police station
                church

Color the map and all the things on it. You may add trees, brooks, bridges,
pools, swings, etc. What ever you have room for without making it too crowded.

Suggestion : Make a rough copy on another piece of paper or copy the page
sent home (first). Then do the project page.

Parents are encouraged to “help” with street names and locations but please
don’t do the map for your child.

This can be as simple as the child wishes or as elaborate as they wish – the
object is to get them to understand “community” and “neighborhoods” and being
aware of what is included in theirs. No 3-D projects please.

The child MUST use ONLY the page provided for this project and it cannot
include any added weight as it will be laminated to hang in the hallway.

Have fun !
