You could win!

TRHS PTSA is sponsoring the National Reflections Arts Program for the Senior Division (9th-12th grade) at Timberlane! You will first compete at the Regional level at your school. You could then move to the State level and then to Nationals! The TRHS PTSA awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners at the Regional level with cash prizes! All entries will receive a certificate of participation. All participants are invited to attend Timberlane’s District Ceremony and the State Exhibit in March 2012. Winners at the State level moving to Nationals could win a trip, an $800 arts education, and more!

Art Areas

Students may submit as many separate entries of new, original artwork inspired by this year’s theme “Diversity Means” in six art areas: Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film Production.

Deadline for Entries

The TRHS PTSA deadline will be Friday, December 2nd, 2011 by 2:30 PM. Entries can NOW be submitted at the front office into the PTSA Reflections Drop-off box. Start soon so you don’t miss out, early submissions are recommended!

Judges Tips

Your artwork will be judged on your Artwork’s Interpretation of the Theme and Artist Statement (5 points), Artistic Merit/Creativity and presentation (3 points), and Mastery of the medium (2 points).

Rules

Only new, original artwork is accepted, adults may not alter the creative integrity of a student’s work. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified. Entries will be judged on artistic merit, creativity and interpretation of this year’s theme, “Diversity Means”. All Entry Forms must include an artist statement, no longer than 250 words that describe what inspired the work and how it relates to the theme. Completed Entry Forms are required for each art submission. You can pick up Entry Forms at the Guidance Table or go visit the TRHS PTSA page on www.timberlanehs.com for Entry Forms and Official Rules. Below are some of the Art Area Rules:

 

Literature Rules

Go to www.nhpta1.org for Presentation and format.

Fiction or nonfiction prose, poetry, or drama.   No longer than 2,000 words. Handwritten or typed on one side of each page, on any paper not exceeding 8.5”x11”. Grade-appropriate grammar, spelling and punctuation. Number and place your name on the back of all pages. Provide one copy without your name for local judging. Place original and copies in a manila folder. Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to back of folder for easy Entry Form removal.

Visual Art Rules

Original print, painting, drawing, collage including photo, metal-etching, punch work, fiber or computer generated. Flat up to 3/8” thick. No 3-dimensional art productions. No bigger than 24”x30” including mat. May be on paper, canvas, or cardboard mat, NO frames. Cover with plastic or shrink-wrap. Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to the back of artwork for easy Entry Form removal.

Photography Rules

Use good photo techniques such as depth of field and exposure; but theme portrayal is key.   Original, flat black & white or color photo matted on cardboard. May manipulate images digitally or conventionally.    Acceptable techniques include montage, multiple exposures and negative sandwiching. NO graphics over photos are allowed. No bigger than 11”x14” including mat. Photos need to be mounted or matted; but NOT framed. Cover photo with plastic or shrink-wrap. Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to the back of photo for easy Entry Form removal.

Music Composition Rules

Compositions for voice, instruments or combination are accepted. Traditional, tablature or electronic notation required. Composition not to exceed 5 minutes. Students are not required to perform their own compositions. Composition and Notation software is permitted.    Recording in real time. Submit two CD recordings of a performance. Entries no larger than 11”x14”, band and orchestra scores can be 11”x16”. Place name on back of each page. Provide one copy without name for judging and place in a large envelope.   Do not mat or bind the score. Place two CD in plastic or cardboard labeled with: NAME, Senior, NH, 2011-12. Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to the back of envelope for easy Entry Form removal.

Film Production Rules

Fiction or non-fiction. May be animation, narrative, documentary, experimental, or computer generated media presentation. NO Power Point presentations accepted. No longer than 5 minutes, with or without sound. Student submitting the entry must be the director, writer & operator. Submit on DVD or CD not as movie; format .mpg, .mov or .wmv. Parental consent of minors must be signed and attached. Submit two DVDs or CDs in plastic or cardboard container, label both with: Your NAME, Senior Division, NH, 2011-12. Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to the back of envelope for easy Entry Form removal.

Dance Choreography Rules

Choreography must be the work of one person. Choreographer may or may not appear in video. No longer than 5 minutes. Submit on DVD or CD not as movie; format .mpg, .mov or wmv. Costumes noted if original or not work of student. Document music used in video. Parental consent of minors must be signed and attached. Submit 2 DVDs or CDs in plastic or cardboard container, label both with: Your NAME, Senior Division, NH, 2011-12.   Place Entry Form in sheet protector and tape protector to the back of artwork for easy Entry Form removal.
