Timberlane Middle School Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome to the Timberlane Middle School: Volunteers/Community Partnerships Page

This page highlights current school volunteerism/partnership efforts and their accomplishments, and invites YOU to join in the fun and become a volunteer at the Middle School! The Middle School encourages volunteerism on many levels. Many Parents, Teachers and Staff, Administrators, Business and Community Members, as well as the students themselves contribute towards the volunteer effort. These people give back a little to their school and community, while helping to enrich the lives of others. Let’s give a big warm THANK YOU to them! We hope that as you read this page you yourself become inspired to join them.

In fact, you can start now. The TRMS PTSA is still recruiting volunteers for the 8th grade ice cream party, Career Day, and various other events. If you haven't yet volunteered and are interested in doing so, contact Laura Lipfert at lipfertl@hotmail.com. Here are some of our volunteer opportunities:

May 12-16: Staff Appreciation Week. Volunters needed to help serve desserts (one day) and a continental breakfast (the other).

May 15: Career Day (8th grade), 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Volunteers are needed to meet and escort participants for this morning event.

May 29: Talent Show, PTSA Silent Auction and Concessions, 6 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help man tables at the silent auction and concession stand. We are also still accepting donations of goods and services for the silent auction and a raffle.

June 10: Info night for parents of incoming 5th graders, 6:30 - 8 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help staff PTSA tables with apparel, fliers, etc.

June 20: 8th grade celebration assemblies. Volunteers are needed to help scoop ice cream at the after-lunch party that follows the 8th grade celebration assemblies, at which 8th graders get their certificates and any awards and watch their team's Power Point presentation. (Bring your own scoop.)

Several PTSA board positions are also open for next year! If you are interested, please come to our next meeting on Monday, April 14...Or e-mail Laura at lipfertl@hotmail.com.

Student Senate/Students of Service (SOS)   Students of Service, a club that the Middle School sponsored, has now been merged with the Student Senate. Any Middle School student may apply to join. The Student Senate meets once a week and gives students opportunities to experience for themselves the personal growth that comes from giving of back to their school and community. Past projects include:  a 7th and 8th grade dance, Veteran’s Remembrance, hosting holiday meals for our Senior Citizens, routine administrative tasks within the school,  and fundraising through weekly bake sales to donate to a Native American family. They have also collected books of US mail stamps to give to our senior citizens at the annual Vic Geary Holiday Party, and then made 100 valentines for the Veteran's Home in Tilton. If  you are interested in joining this great community service group please contact Mrs. Sherman in school. You can also visit the Student Senate page on the school website, at www.timberlanems.com.  J Thank You Student SenateJ

Business and Community Members  The Middle School held the annual 8th grade Career Day each spring.  Over 30 professionals come to the school to talk to students about the fields that they work in. This inspring event  gives 8th grade students the opportunity to investigate potential careers. This annual event is held just prior to the course sign-ups for High School classes, and helps student to chose what classes they will sign up for. After all wouldn’t it be nice to now what you wanted to be when you grow up?

Another enriching experience that our business and community members have given to our students in the past is the unique experience of  " Job Shadowing". On  national Job Shadow Day many people have generously volunteered their time to show a Middle School student the in’s and out’s of their job. Students have shadowed in the Governors office and the Celtics office, to name a couple of high profile assigments. Students have the option of choosing what exactly they would like to do for Job Shadow Day, and the curriculum professional help them to make it happen. What a great hands on experience! If you are interested in participating in either of these events in the future please contact the curriculum coordinator's office. This year's program has already been scheduled.

Businesses have also contributed to many of our events: providing prizes at our 6th grade Halloween party, coffee cakes for our Senior Tea, and many goods and services for our upcoming Silent Auction and Raffle. J Thank You Business and Community Members and to all who orchestrate these events which inspire our children.J

Parent Teacher Student Association PTSA  The Timberlane Middle School has a very strong PTSA, including a Dads group, that helps to enrich the students both academically and socially. The main fundraisers are the membership dues and the sweatshirt sales. The PTSA raises funds that provide monies for academic scholarships, Camp Lincoln scholarships, library donations, and social events etc.  It is the PTSA that orchestrates the 6th grade Halloween party,  the 7th grade popsicles and ice cream in June, the 8th grade Farewell celebration, teacher appreciation events, and various other events. If you are interested in participating, please click on the PTSA link to find out more. Thank You PTSAJ

Parent Volunteers  Traditionally all the Timberlane feeder towns, Atkinson, Danville, Plaistow, and Sandown, have very strong volunteerism reputations. The Middle School welcomes and encourages parents to continue to this tradition of volunteering, at the next level, within our building. Our dedicated and generous parents form the backbone of our volunteer corps. Some of the ways parents have donated a bit of their time and energy towards helping is by becoming: sports coaches/assistants, classroom/team helpers, committee members, PTSA officers &  event helpers, enrichment  assistants, or adminstrative/copier helpers. In 2003-2004 added a team of  parent volunteers to help out in the Curriculum Office. By being seen physically in the building helping out you are demonstrating your commitment and caring towards our youth. What an excellent example you set! J Thank You ParentsJ

Showcase: The Timberlane Middle School has won the New Hampshire Partners in Education (www.NHPIE.org ) Blue Ribbon School Achievement Award for outstanding school volunteerism for at least 15 years in a row. How to join for:

Business/Community Members:If you are working in the business community and would like to get involved, check with your supervisor/employees to see in what ways they can contribute to this community service. Give your company the incentive to answer President Bush’s "Call for Service" by offering them the opportunity to become involved with the Middle School through tutoring, mentoring, or some other project. The Middle School also will gladly accept your donations of various items. If you are interested in donating to our Silent Auction and Raffle at the end of May, please contact Sharon Burke at sburke@mcsellc.com or Sharon Crossman-Assaf at ontheroadagain2@comcast.net. If you are unsure of  how you might help, please contact Laura Lipfert at lipfertl@hotmail.comPlease be sure to write VOLUNTEER in the subject line forimmediate attention.

Parents, Grandparents, Relations:At the beginning of each school year teacher teams, the PTSA, sports coordinators, and others in need will send out sign up forms. Choose where your interests lie and fill out and return your form. Oops! Have you lost your forms, or maybe they never made it out of your child’s backpack? Very common! Never fear. With this new website the barriers to communication have been broken to bits! Surf around. Get involved.Another way to find out what is going on is to attend a PTSA meeting.  A great many school functions are coordinated by the PTSA.  If you are unsure of who to contact, or even about how you might help please contact Laura Lipfert at lipfertl@hotmail.com.  Please be sure to write VOLUNTEER in the subject line for immediate attention.

Enjoy your volunteering journey!

Thanks
