--------------------------------------
How will my final grade be determined?
Homework 15%
Journals 10%
Quizzes 15%
Projects 25%
Tests 30%
Participation 5%
Participation explanation: Your participation score will be determined
based on your contributions to class discussion; your preparedness for
class, which includes having proper materials and having your text book in
class and covered; and your attentiveness during class time. A participation
grade will be given at the end of each week. Every student starts with a
90%. To earn a 100% a student must actively participate in class during that
week.
--------------------------------------
What are the penalties for late homework?
Homework will be considered late if it is handed in anytime after it has been
collected, on the day it is due. Late homework turned in within one day will
receive a ten point deduction; late homework turned in within two days will
receive a twenty point deduction. Homework turned in more than two full days
late will start at a 50%.
deduction.
--------------------------------------
Are there procedures for how my work should be done?
Yes. All work should be done on a full sheet of paper; written in blue or
black ink; and should have your full name, section number, and date in the
upper left corner. Work without a student's name will receive a 5 pt. deduction.
--------------------------------------
What are the procedures for typing papers?
Typed papers should be double-spaced and in a 12 point font.
--------------------------------------
Will extra help be available?
I will be available for extra help nearly every day before school beginning
at 7 am and after school until 3:30 pm. So, please feel free to come and get
help with homework, in preparation for quizzes or tests, or just to chat
about the class or school in general.
--------------------------------------
What are the procedures for make-up work if I am absent?
As per the WMS student handbook, "students will be given the same number of
days to make up their work as they have missed, unless other arrangements
have been made with the team or individual teachers." Thus, if a student
misses one day they have one day to make up their missed work. It is the
student's responsibility to ask the teacher for missed assignments and/or
notes. Also,it is the students responsibility to turn in any homework that
they did not turn in on the day of their absence with the letters "AB"
written on the top. Any work not turned in the allowed time will be counted
as late.
--------------------------------------
What are journals?
Journals will be done on a nearly daily basis and will be the first
assignment students will complete upon entering the classroom. A writing
prompt, dealing either with current events or current class subjects, will be
written on the board prior to class. Student journals (composition
notebooks) will be kept in the classroom. On each page the student will
write the date in the upper left corner and will then respond to the writing
prompt in complete sentences. There will be approximately 5 minutes given to
answer the questions. Journals will be graded on "check" scale twice during
the quarter(once before midterms and once before final report cards).
Grades are based on thoughtfulness of answers.
--------------------------------------
Will there be pop quizzes?
No, but there will be frequent unannounced open-note quizzes. The open-note
quizzes could be on reading assignments or presentations. Each time reading
is assigned and students are told to take notes they should expect that they
will be given a 10 question open-note quiz the next day.

Is there extra credit?
Every quarter students have the opportunity to complete an additional book
report for extra credit. This extra credit applies every quarter,
throughout the year.
