  2. Who choses the Lady Bug Book nominees?
  3. How can I help my child select a good book?
  4. What are the Great Stone Face books?

What are books that are popular with third and fourth graders.

Students in these grades want to read chapter books that they can relate
to. Books that fly off the shelves are Captain Underpants, Mary-Kate and
Ashley and any book in the Magic Tree House Series.

Who choses the Lady Bug Book nominees?

Lady Bug book nominees are chosen by NH Childrens Librarians. They are
books that have been published in the last three years, have never been a
nominee before and reflect the best of books for students in preschool
through third grade.

How can I help my child select a good book?

I would encourage students to look for an author that has written other
books they liked, look for books that have received awards, read the write-
up on the back or inside cover and find out if it sounds interesting. Does
the book have a well read look with a worn cover, have any of their friends
read the book and does their teacher or librarian recommend the book? Does
the cover look interesting, does the title catch your interest and check out
a page in the middle of the book to see if you like it.

What are the Great Stone Face books?

These are 25 books chosen by NH Childrens Librarians for students in grades
4-6. Students have an opportunity in April to vote for their favorite.
Students only have to read one of the selections in order to cast their vote.
