Grade 4 has been very busy this year. I did not get into the classrooms to teach, but hopefully there
will be time for me next year.
The 4th graders mature quite a bit as the year goes by and they approach becoming 5th graders.
Interest in "boys" by girls and "girls" by boys starts to become quite apparent. We encourage the kids
to be only friends at this age level and heavily discourage any boyfriend/girlfriend talk.
BFF (best friends forever) also seems to be a topic of conversation at times. Again, I discourage the
idea of BFF's - and encourage the kids to keep enlarging their circle of friends. Friendships are
constantly changing at this age level and one day someone is their best friend whereas the next day
they aren't . . . feelings just get hurt.
We also work on using the phrases: I am mad because _________ or I am sad because____________
when they are upset with someone. This helps them work through the disagreements more effectively.
