Midterm Exams Start January 19th How should you prepare for the science midterm? 1. Download the Midterm Review Sheet for a list of topics covered as well as a few sample problems to try: pscimidtermrvw07.doc 2. PASSWORD: science http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/story.php?title=midterm-review_12 *Please be aware that only a handful of questions on the midterm ask you to match the definition with the correct term. Instead, most questions will be application questions. For example: During an experiment, a scientists applies different fertilizers to plants and then measures the height of the plants after 30 days. The height of the plants would be considered a(n) ????? variable. (ANSWER: dependent) 4. Study by rereading notes, handouts and worksheets. If you are confused by anything in your notes and need more explanation, the following sections of your textbook may help: A. Chapter 1 (ALL): Intro to Science (Technology, Branches of Science, Metric System, Sig Figs, Sci Not) B. Chapter 2: Sect. 2 & 3: Matter (Physical & Chemical Properties/Changes) C. Ch. 3: Sect 1 & 2: States of Matter (and Phase Changes) D. Ch. 12: Sect 2: Gravity (Mass & Weight) E. Ch. 14: Sect 1 & 2: Heat & Temperature F. Ch. 21: Sect 1: Plate Tectonics/Continental Drift 5. Try old worksheets again. Cover up answers. Then complete the problem again and compare to the answers that you copied as we corrected homework in class. If you find that you are not able to solve the problems correctly, follow number 8. 6. Fill out 5" by 8" notecard with any formulas, definitions, examples that you are having trouble remembering. (Don't waste time or space on the card by writing things you already know. Focus on things that you have trouble remembering or get confused.) 7. For help with significant figures or scientific notation, visit the "Math Help Links" page of this website. The links provide explanations as well as practice problems. 8. Attend Late Study to get help on Thursday January 7th and 14th.
