Word Work

Each child has been assessed on their spelling strengths and weaknesses and has been placed into a cooperative learning group.  Students will work in these groups each week to master various spelling skills and strategies.  It is important to realize that not every student will receive the same sort.

Below you will find a list of the activities we will complete each week in school.

Monday:

Students will be introduced to their new sort for the week.  Students are taught either the pattern, sound, or meaning that their sort has in common.  On this day we will cut our words out and put them in a baggie so we have them all week.

Tuesday:

Students will work with a partner to practice manipulating and sorting their words for the week.

Wednesday:

Students will work independently to practice manipulating and sorting their words for the week.

Thursday:

Students will practice locating their words in independent reading books.  This is also the day where we may play some fun games based on our sorts!

Friday:

Students will independently paste their sorts into their Word Work notebooks.
