Homework

Homework is a significant part of a child's studies and success. It
reinforces what is being taught in the classroom, and extends classroom
learning. Because reinforcing classroom skills at home is so important,
please take the time to monitor your child's homework assignments daily.
Please keep in mind there will be long-term assignments and test preparation
throughout the year, as well. All homework assignments will be posted daily in
the classroom, and it is your child's responsibility to copy down these
assignments in their agendas.

Students are also encouraged to read on a nightly basis. Reading logs will
come home every Friday. Students may choose a variety of reading materials,
such as chapter books (fiction and non-fiction), magazines, newspaper
articles, etc. You can monitor their comprehension by asking a variety of
questions- What is the book about? Who are the main characters? What is your
favorite/least favorite part? What did you read about tonight? Conversing
with your child about the book will help to increase his/her comprehension
level. Students are welcome to take home their independent reading books as
long as they remember to return them to school the next day.
