What is the best way to contact Mrs. Chartoff?
Send a note with your child or email me using the email link on
the homepage.
pchartoff@ebnet.org
FYI:
I will always reply to your email as soon as I see it(checked
daily). I may not have time to answer a question completely, but
will at least reply: Thank you or I got it. Last year, I had a
few problems with the districts SPAM filters holding parent
emails, so please assume I did not see the email if I
do not reply.
What kinds of drinks may I send for my child to drink in the classroom?
I prefer water bottles. On really hot days Gatorade is also a
great idea.
Juice boxes are okay with snack. Please write your child's name
on the container with a Sharpie before sending it to school.
Bottles are kept all together (Water Station) not on desk.
No glass.
No soda will be allowed.
What kinds of snacks may I send?
Apples, any fruit or vegetables, pretzels, cereal bar, granola
bar, yogurt, crackers...small healthy snacks.
NO CANDY, CHEESE DOODLES OR ANY POTATO CHIPS.
I do have a small refrigerator in the classroom if a child needs
to store something such as a yogurt or cheese snack they may do
so.
We have snack daily. At Back to School Night, I will have a
monthy sign up sheet for anyone who would like to donate snacks.
I like to keep snacks on hand for those students who forget to
bring one. We have snack every day mid-morning.
What do I do if my child left their homework in school?
Just have them do it the next night.
My child played a sport after school and is too tired to do homework, is it a problem if we skip it tonight?
No it is not a problem to skip it. I understand things come up.
By the way, if you know a certain night is tough in your house
for homework, let me know. One suggestion is to do the work on
another night instead since I have it on the assignment sheet
already.
Where should I meet my child when I pick them up?
Bus riders go to the libray. ASK students go to the gym. Walkers
are dismissed from the door by the first grade (next to the
amphitheater). When it rains please make sure you have a meeting
spot so your child can locate you among all the umbrellas. If a
child does not find their parent they are to go to the office. If
you do not see your child go to the office for assistance. If we
are told the steps are unsafe(ice or snow) then students will
walk out from the doors by the tables that are next to the slides
and playground.
Should I still listen to my child read aloud?
It depends. I would suggest that you listen to them read aloud
occasionally so that you can hear if they sound fluent or read
choppy. Most importantly ask you child to tell you what the book
is mainly about. You may also ask if your child can relate to the
characters or if they can make connections to events. A final
suggestion is ask your child what strategy they used while they
read.
Does my child have to complete every Math Box or every problem on the page?
No.
When a study guide comes home if you notice a problem was not
completed that I noted to review then your child can complete it
then as a review of the skill. Some students will complete the
whole page others may need more time and may be told to just do a
few. That is ok.
How often are math assessments?
At the end of each unit. Usually about every 15 lessons so about
every 3 weeks. I send a study guide home before we actually
finish the unit.
Can my child read comics? Magazines?
Yes! Comics, recipes, magazines, text books, library
books,reading is reading.
