I grew up and still live in East Brunswick. I attended Bowne-
Munro Elementary School and continued through all of the East Brunswick
schools before graduating from the high school with the class of 1998. I
earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2001 from Virginia Tech.
Following completion of my degree, I wasn't sure that I wanted to continue
working towards another psychology degree. I knew that I love to study
language and how we communicate with one another, though. I moved up to
Boston, where I attended the MGH Institute of Health Professions and earned
an MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders. During my studies, I worked
with students and adults who need augmentative and alternative
communication, others with traumatic brain injuries, and school-aged
students with articulation, language, attention, and other communication
issues. I also got a chance to learn about and work with written language
challenges, such as dyslexia.
Despite my love of all things Boston (and yes, that includes the Red Sox),
I wanted to come back to New Jersey, and really wanted to be in East
Brunswick to give back to the community and school system that had served
me so well. This will be second year at Memorial and I love being here!
My goal is for the children to learn strategies and skills while still
having fun. I use a lot of games and fun worksheets for them to drill
without feeling like they are being drilled.
Overall, Ms. Cancro's room is a place where
