October Update This will be a wonderful month for the second graders. In math we will be working on increasing our fact power. Daily practice of addition and subtraction facts will be very beneficial. We will also begin telling and solving number stories this month. In reading we will begin our month by learning ways to figure out tricky words. We will then learn about the active reading strategies. These strategies will help the children stay engaged as readers. In writing we will be learning how to write a small moment story. We will learn to include a beginnning, a middle, and an end to our stories. This month we will also learn how to add more details to our writing to make it stronger. In science we will be investigating liquids. We will learn some new vocabulary words to help us describe the different liquids. In social studies the class will continue to learn about different types of communities and we will discuss how communities have changed over time. We will even have a chance to see what East Brunswick used to look like. Finally, in Health we will continue to learn about being a respectful person and we will identify ways we are each a hero! As you can see, second grade is one busy place!
