3rd Grade ILA HomeworkPlease check your child's Home Folder for any important notices regarding Writer's or Reader's Workshop. **Students will have reading homework each and every day!
Homework for: Month of February Reading, use a skill that we've learned in school, jot it down on your post-it note, and then list it on your log sheet every day! Our focus is on stories with social issues. Please have your child share why they are jotting down what they are on their post-it notes. It should always be about the "meaning". Please have your child place at least one of their post-it notes directly on their reading log. Reading logs are shown everyday to the teacher! We are building reading stamina and will shoot for 30min of reading each night!!!
Reading Response- No homework with this skill yet.
Think like a writer and notice great moments in your everyday life! This Months Genre is Persuasive Essays. Social Issues Unit in Reading lends itself to get our 3rd graders to gain perspective about what others think. Some social issues you can share your thinking on are Poverty, Friendships, Bullying, Homelessness, Predudice, Growing Up to name a few. The students are learning to write their thoughts about their books and how to convince others to see their point of view. They do this by critiqueing their books, and sharing their ideas about the social issue. This unit is a great to get grand conversations going about the books your child is reading.
Calendar Word Work - Each night your child will have an activity to complete that focuses on a skill that will help them with spelling, reading or even writing. We typically review the HW on Mondays or Tuesdays so the children will know what to do. This should all be completed indepenently. The calendar has a reminder to read each day as well :)
* Please try to read at least 5 days a week!
*See "Helpful Documents" for rubrics, examples, and explanations
