Announcements

The 2nd marking period is drawing to a close! The year is flying by and the
students are becoming full grown 3rd graders. Continue to monitor your
child's reading log nightly. Students are required to collect meaning
thoughts each and every time they read. This can be either a decoding
strategy with a comprehension strategy or jotting down important events that
happened to the main character. Your child should be sharing why they feel
the way they do about a thought by jotting why they wrote what they did. This
is becoming second nature to many of the students and they are making strong
progress in their reading.

Remember that reading in the content area is just as important as their
reading in fictional text. After all they will be students for many more
years to come. The district now has a "Reading in the Content Area- RICA"
which is administered during the marking period. Your child must share their
thinking as well as why or how they came to this conclusion by siting evidence
from the text. We are working on this skill in both Science and Social
Studies. Be sure to ask your child to share "why or how" they come to their
opinions when having casual conversations about their day. This will help them
to develop this skill naturally.
