TAKE FIVE!

TAKE FIVE!
1. Put First Things First
I spend my time on things that are most important.  This means I say no to things I know I should not do.  I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan.  I am disciplined and organized.
At Home Connection:
1. What are some of your child's most important jobs or responsibilities?  Practicing the piano?  Making his/her bed?  Doing his/her homework?  Talk with your child about the importance of completing these tasks rather than procrastinating.
2. Role play a "backwards morning" with your child.  What would happen if you went to school before getting dressed, eating breakfast, and brushing your teeth?
3. Enjoy reading The 7 Habits of Happy Kids written by Sean Covey.

2. Be Considerate
I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want.  I listen to other people's ideas and feelings.  I try to see things from their viewpoints.  I listen to others without interrupting.  I am confident in voicing my ideas.  I look people in the eyes when talking.
At Home Connection:
1. Think of someone in your life who you think is a good listener.  Your grandma?  Your dad?  Your best friend?  What do they do that makes them a good listener?
2. The next time one of your friends is sad, notice his eyes or the way he holds his body.  Tell them you know they are sad and you want to help.
3. Keep a chart at home of ways your child was considerate to others throughout the month.

3. Aim High
I plan ahead and set goals.  I do things that have meaning and make a difference.  I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school's mission and vision, and look for ways to be a good citizen.
At Home Connection
1. Write down three goals and put the paper in a safe place where you can see it.
2. Tell your mom or dad what you want to be when you grow up.
3. Pick something you would like to do better.  Write two things you can do that would help you improve.

4. Work as a Team
I value other people's strengths and learn from them.  I get along well with others.  I work well in groups.  I seek out other people's ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone.  I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.
At Home Connection
1. Watch your favorite sports team play a game.  Pay extra attention to how all the players work together as a team.
2. Talk about what makes a bad team member and what makes a good team member.
3. Call two friends and put up a lemonade stand.  One person can create the poster, one can make the lemonade, and one can set up the table and bring the cups and ice.  Have fun!

5. Be Proactive
I am a responsible person.  I take initiative.  I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods.  I do not blame others for my wrong ations.  I do the right things without being asked, even when no one is looking.
At Home Connection
1. Make a chore chart.
2. When you have spare time, do something nice for someone else.
3. If you realize you make a mistake, apologize before being asked to do so.
